Alternatives for Seniors - Michigan is a Michigan-focused directory of senior housing and care, published by Residential Marketing Concepts, Inc. We exist to make it easier — not more confusing — to find the right care.
For more than 34 years, Alternatives for Seniors has been a trusted resource for seniors, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals searching for senior housing, senior living communities, and elder care services throughout the United States. Founded in 1992 by Anita Kremer, our mission has always been simple: make it easier for families to find the right senior living and care options with confidence.
Before founding Alternatives for Seniors, Anita Kremer built a successful career in the multi-family housing industry. While marketing a congregate living facility in Monroe, Michigan, she quickly realized there was no effective way to reach seniors and their families. At the time, marketing options were limited to local newspapers and the Yellow Pages, making it difficult for retirement communities, nursing homes, and senior care providers to connect with those who needed their services.
Years later, while working as a consultant for the multi-family housing industry, Anita was hired to market and renovate a newly acquired nursing home chain. Once again, she encountered the same challenge—there was still no dedicated advertising resource focused exclusively on senior living and senior housing.
Seeing an opportunity to serve both families and senior care providers, Anita combined her marketing expertise with the proven concept of apartment guide publications to create a directory dedicated solely to senior housing. That vision became Alternatives for Seniors.
The first printed directory was published in Metro Detroit in January 1992 under the name Senior Alternatives. As the company expanded, the publication was renamed Alternatives for Seniors to better reflect its mission and growing audience.
Over the years, the senior living industry has evolved significantly. Traditional retirement communities have expanded into a variety of care options, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), Hospice Care, and Home Care Services. Throughout these changes, Alternatives for Seniors has remained committed to helping families understand their options and connect with trusted senior care providers
In 1996, recognizing the growing importance of the internet, Anita launched AlternativesForSeniors.com with information about senior housing communities in Metro Detroit. As more families began searching online for senior care resources, the website expanded to become a nationwide directory featuring senior living communities, retirement communities, nursing homes, home care agencies, memory care providers, hospice organizations, and other senior services across the United States.
Today, AlternativesForSeniors.com helps thousands of families each month research, compare, and connect with senior living providers that meet their individual needs.
Although Alternatives for Seniors has grown into a nationally recognized senior living resource, we have never lost the personal service that inspired our company from the beginning. As a proudly woman-owned business, we believe every family deserves compassionate guidance during one of life's most important decisions.
Whether you're searching for Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Home Care, Hospice Services, or other senior care resources, our goal is to provide accurate information, trusted connections, and a personalized experience every step of the way.
Our mission is to simplify the search for senior living and care by connecting families with trusted providers, delivering reliable information, and supporting informed decisions with compassion, integrity, and personalized service.
More than three decades after publishing our first directory, Alternatives for Seniors continues to help seniors and their loved ones discover the housing, care, and support they need—today and for the future.

Every Michigan community, service, or resource is welcome in the directory at no cost. Upgrade when you’re ready — priority placement and a full-featured listing for $25 per month or $250 per year. We never sell leads or share family inquiries with anyone else.
